SHARK VS BRAVES

I don't care if you hate/like/don't care about the Shark nickname.  This is what is going to happen to the Atlanta Braves this weekend.

THE NOT-SO-BRAVES WILL BE SHARK BAIT!

SHARK VS PHILLIES

The Nationals beat the Phillies fans with their bats last night, by beating the Phillies for the second time in 2 days.

The Shark came in late in both of the games, being a defensive replacement in game one, then a pinch hitter in game two.  With Ryan Zimmerman scratched from tonight's game, there is a good chance that the Shark will start.

That would be great news for the Nationals, and the worst possible news for the Phillies...

SHARK VS ORIOLES

The Nationals may have lost game one against the Orioles but let's not forget that they have the Shark on their team...

Tonight we expect to see some of this:

And some of this:
And hopefully a lot of this.
Classicly terrible Sharkadina photoshopping.
See more Shark Vs posts here!

Shark Sign

The Nats fell to the Orioles last night 2-1 in extra innings. The Shark went 0-5 but kind of came through when he was up with two outs in the bottom of the eleventh and instead of ending the game, he reached 1st on a wild pitch. It looked like it could have started a rally as Zim hit a single right after, but it wasn't meant to be. The Shark and The Nats will try to take down the Orioles tonight.

In good news, the SHARK chants are spreading like wildfire around the stadium. We had our whole section chanting and doing the CHOMPCHOMP every at bat. Hopefully it continues to spread around the country so we can keep adding stars to our map.

Other good news- Terry won Fan of the Game again! And we haven't lost the Harris Teeter gift card. Yet. Check out the tape:

"We did it"

Be sure to check out our other Fan of the Game stories and videos here and here.

After the game, we waited by the players parking lot to see The Shark with our good friend and Shark Super Fan Brandon Morrison. As usual, Bernadina was one of the last players out, but it was well worth the wait. We chatted for awhile and he signed the game used jersey that we won a few weeks ago:

The coolest thing he said was that he has seen the video of us celebrating his first home run during Sharkadina Night! I know we've said it before, but Roger Bernadina is literally the nicest man in baseball! He signed for everyone that was waiting and continues to indulge our weird animal themed obsession of him. Thanks for not telling us to stop, Shark!

The other BIGGEST NEWS is that we got interviewed on MLB.com last night and the video is awesome!!!  You can watch it by clicking here@MLB tweeted it to their 2 million followers!  JAWSOME!

MLB.com Interview

We got interviewed on MLB.com tonight!!!!  Watch it right now.  Here is a screenshot of Tyler and Terry looking like deer in headlights but the interview turned out okay! Plus the editing is JAW-MAZING.

You need to watch this!  Thank you Hayley Milon for the great interview!

"shark shark"

For the second time this week, the Shark-led Nationals went into last nights game against a below average team with a chance to sweep.  For the second time, the Nats were unable to seal the deal.

You would think that the Shark would be able to tear a seal to shreds.

The Nats spanked the Pirates on Wednesday because they somehow managed to keep down Andrew McCutchen.  This was partially because of Gio Gonzalez, but more likely because Bo Porter tranquilized McCutchen during batting practice. Sadly, they were unable to do the same thing last night, and McCutchen took advantage, hitting two home runs and robbing The Stag of at least a double in the Nats 5-3 loss.

The Shark needs to step up and do his duty the next time the teams face off...

shark shark!
Despite the loss, the game was a lot of fun.  On the Metro, I ran into Shark fan Leslie, whom I recognized as a Bernadina fan because she was wearing the very first Shark shirt!  She was totally cool and apparently has a great Facebook profile picture of her and the Shark!

I went to the game with Masha (AKA the Bond Shark) and two new Shark fans, my friend Jake and my roommate Mick.  They look pretty good in Shark hats (Note: Mick doesn't usually look as frighteningly sullen most of the time)...
shark shark shark shark!
Another cool part of the game was running into THE FAMOUS 200TH PERSON TO LIKE SHARKADINA ON FACEBOOK.  His name is Bijan and he is awesome! See!
shark shark
It was a great game for Sharkadina pride, and a good game for finding new followers. Imagination Stage's own Phil, Ana, KB, and Rachel were chanting for the Shark all over the stadium (or so I am led to believe)! That said, Mick won the award for most dedicated, showing his Shark pride all the way home.

Sharkadina Weekend

Just how successful was Sharkadina Night? Well since then, Bernadina is 6 for 17 with 2 Home Runs, a double, 3 Runs, 5 RBIs, and 1 Stolen Base! It is probably safe to say it is the best four game stretch of his career. Here is the breakdown of the stats:

Thursday, May 10 (Sharkadina Night)
1 for 4, HR, 1 run, 1 RBI

Friday, May 11
2 for 5, HR, 1 run, 3 RBI

Saturday, May 12
1 for 4

Sunday, May 13
2 for 4, double, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base

Of course, we are giving credit for this hot streak to Sharkadina Night and officially changed it to Sharkadina Weekend. The Nats and The Shark return home to take on the Padres, Pirates, and Orioles this week. Hopefully he can keep up his hitting and we can dub May 2012 "Sharkadina Month!"

Here are some more photos of Shark fans igniting their #Sharkitude! You won't want to miss our next event!

The sHRk

Sharkadina Night just turned into Sharkadina Weekend (or hopefully week, or month, or year, or eternity)!

For the second time in two nights, The Shark connected on a home run last night.  Also for the second time in two nights, his home run kicked off the scoring for the Nationals and led to a 3 run inning! Bernadina opened the doors to a huge series opening 7-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds.  The best part was that the Shark wasn't done there.  He hit an RBI single 2 innings later!  He ended the night 2 for 5, with a run, 3 RBIs, and a stolen base. Jaw-dropping numbers.

Another interesting twist to this Shark power surge is that it is fairly possible that he's hitting the home runs for us!
The first message was around 5 o'clock on Sharkadina NightThe Shark definitely got it.

Other interesting tidbits:
MASNSports' Bryon Kerr sees the Shark!
The Chicago Tribune knows Roger Bernadina is the Shark!
My roommates are Physics grad students at UMD. They drew a scientific diagram of Sharkadina.

They don't know how to spell my name.

Sharkadina Night Perspective

If you have checked this blog anytime in the last 3 weeks, you would be quite aware of the fact that the first ever "Sharkadina Night" occurred last night at The Big Board in DC.  If you were there, you know this already, but if you weren't, I want to be the first to tell you that it was an absolutely AWESOME EVENT.

Between the Shark Attack shots, the Sharklings, the hoods, the fact that the Shark started the game and batted second, everything was leading into it being an amazing evening.  After going 0 for 2 in his first two at bats, Bernadina decided to make the night his by hitting his first home run of the season!

You can watch the video on MLB by clicking here.

When you finish that, watch our reaction:
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! SHARK ATTACK!!!!!

Thanks for that Shark!

It was great to see the big turn out too, and seeing as it is friday (#FF), here are some of the Twitter followers who showed up:
@Sharkadina, @tyinDC, @thebigboarddc, @flashgilbert, @MashaDanilenko, @LaDeenLa, @ewsiv, @bigcat_mike, @mo_brandon

Finally, here are some pictures from the night with many more still to come (on Facebook):

Pittsburgh Shark Chants

There was some silver linings to the Nationals 4-2 loss to Pirates last night...
  1. The Shark had a pinch-hit walk to load the bases in the 8th
  2. Ross Detwiler tossed another quality start
  3. People were chanting "LET'S GO SHARK" when Bernadina was batting.
That is the second city (last one was San Diego) outside DC that there have been audible Shark chants!!!  JAWSOME!

To commemorate this, I have altered a map to show where we've heard the chants thus far:

I hope to have at least 10 more stars on this map by the end of the year.  Can we do it Shark fans?

One more thing:  TONIGHT IS SHARKADINA NIGHT!!!!!  BE THERE!!!!

SHARK VS PIRATES

In honor of our first "SHARK VS" post, which appeared one year ago today, and is a personal favorite of Tyler, we expect the Shark to recover from the first game of the Pirates series (in which he went 0-4) and repeat what happened last time:

SHARKS LOVE HUNTING PIRATES!

Shark of Hope

The Shark and the Nationals wrapped up a 3 game series against the hated Phillies last night on national television.  There was a lot of hype going into the game...  The Nats won game one in extras, with an exciting Rhino walk off then Gio Gonzalez pitched a gem in game two, as the Nats routed the Phillies.  Everything was leading up to the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball showdown and I (Terry) was representing Sharkadina and ready for a good night of baseball.

The night started out VERY well.  As we mentioned on Friday, Sharkadina submitted a photo for a Nationals Natitude contest.  The rules were simple: tweet a picture with to the Nationals Twitter account that demonstrates #Natitude.  6 winners were chosen over the weekend, then from those winners, a grand prize winner was picked.  The grand prize was a GAME USED SHARK JERSEY!  I guess we must have displayed enough Natitude at the games, because, HOLY SHARK, WE WON THE GAME-USED SHARK JERSEY! My excitement was literally bubbling over (how is that even possible?).  Here is a picture of me in the jersey:

It's hard to see but there is a slit cut in the back for the Shark's dorsal fin.
Then the game started and...
BRYCE HARPOON STOLE HOME! wow!
And:
BRYCE HARPOON HAD 2 HITS! yes!
But then...
JAYSON WERTH BROKE HIS WRIST...ouch...
and...
THE NATIONALS PUT IN XAVIER NADY...blech...
then...
THE PHILLIES SCORED 6 RUNS IN THE 9TH...sick...

And the Phillies were leading 9-1 and everything seemed terrible...

But then, there was a shark of hope..

The Nationals put 2 batters on with 2 outs in the 9th inning, and the Shark came in as a pinch hitter.  With Jayson Werth out for 12 weeks to recover from the horrific wrist injury, Bernadina got one more chance to show he is an everyday and...
SHARK CASHED IN!
RBI double down the right field line to pull the Nationals to within 8...

While the Nationals ended up losing the game, the Shark demonstrated that he is up for the challenge to fill the hole vacated by The Great Werth's wrist.   Going forward, the Nationals will be moving Bryce Harpoon to right field, and platooning Shark and Xavier in left.

There is even a chance the Shark will start on Thursday for Sharkadina Night!

Finally, just a quick shark shout out: I got to go because I know some jawsome people.   Masha's (AKA The Blond Shark) roommate, and new Shark fan Natalie received 4 tickets i for volunteering her time at a chili cook-off (a real do-gooder).    We were in Section 237, in the row L with seats down the line in right field.  They were amazing seats.  The great company made for a fun time and made the blow from the loss hurt less.  THANKS NATALIE!

Sharkadina Night!

THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE YOU'VE EVER READ
Just a sharkly reminder to everyone that on May 10th (THIS Coming Thursday) will be the first ever Sharkadina Night hosted by The Big Board!

The Big Board is a super jawsome Bar and Restaurant on H Street (specifically) that is hosting a place for all Shark fans to come and watch the Nats as they fight to destroy those scurvy ridden Pirates!

You might be asking yourself some important questions about this event and I will do my best to answer them... NOW!

Why is this so important?  Easy, it's the first time we've had a specific event that we can all get together and celebrate and show support for the Shark...outside of the Ballpark that is.

Who will be there?  EVERYONE... hopefully.  Terry, Tyler and Zac will be there ready to welcome everyone and enjoy the game.

What should I wear?  Well, we will be there in the famous Shark Hoods and if you have any fun clever Bernadina or Shark themed attire, wear it!

Will there be any specials?  Yes!  There will be a special "Shark Attack" shot for $5, and there will be $4 Sharklings (Yuengling) as well!  Big Board also has awesome burgers and fries, so if you're hungry, you'll be in luck.

The event starts roughly at 7pm and will go until the game is over.  We hope to see you all there supporting the Shark together!

More to come.

#Sharkitude Park #OurShark

Tonight the Phillies invade #Naditude Park but luckily, Nats fans are ready and are apparently outnumbering Phillies fans for once. WE ARE TAKING BACK #OURPARK!

We have already established that the Phillies are horrible, and Phillie fans are worse. With Strasburg pitching and Harper batting 3rd, the Nats have a good chance, and if Shark comes up to bat, please use the hashtag #OurShark and #Sharkitude on Twitter.

In other news, we were all over FSN Arizona last night! Announcers Mark Grace and Daron Sutton kept talking about us all through the 8th inning, saying they "loved the Sharks" and we were an example of "true fandom." Here is video from FSN Arizona (sadly, it's incredibly low quality)

Here's a higher resolution screen shot from us on TV
We would NOT fight the guy in the lower righthand corner ^
And in the biggest news of the day, the Washington Nationals are holding a contest and the grand prize is a ROGER BERNADINA GAME USED JERSEY. If we don't win this, we will be seriously depressed. The good news is we already won a prize on the first day. We posted this picture which, along with new Shark fan @BryceHarpy won us a Ignite your Natitude T-Shirt!

We are planning even more, creative, natitud-y photos to enter into the contest the next two days so stay tuned!

SHARK VS DIAMONDBACKS

Last night was a beautiful night of baseball! The Nationals won in dramatic fashion as Daddy Desmond hit a 2 run walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth at Nationals Park and the Shark hit a 3 run jack and a sac fly (in my game of MLB 2012: The Show).

Tonight the Nationals finish off the series against the Diamondbacks and Sharkadina will be there cheering them on and praying for a Shark pinch hit.  We'll be sitting in the left field corner watching Bryce Harper do his best Shark impression.  The Shark faced the Diamondbacks twice last year (once in a cartoonish way, once in a more realistic way).

In the battle of Snake vs Shark, Shark wins.  LET SHARK PLAY!

See you tonight.
