SHARK VS. NATIONALS

As you all know, The Shark was released by the Nats. You could say he became "independent." He was then picked up by the Phillies and it became clear that he would have to face The Nationals one day. Today is that day.

He will not go quietly into the night! He will not vanish without a fight! He's going to live on, he's going to survive. Today he celebrates his independence day!

This was the hardest Shark Vs. to make. Not physically, because they are all pretty easy when you don't really care about quality. It was emotionally hard to make. Even worse than this one.

We'll be cheering for the Shark tonight and we'll bring you move coverage during the series as The Shark faces his old team for the first time.

Happy Third Sharkiversary!

Three years ago today, we put on shark hoods, went to a baseball game, and screamed "SHARK" at a confused Roger Bernadina. The rest is history.

And now, you can read the complete history of Sharkadina for the low, low price of clicking this link:

The Sharkadina Story

It's the perfect gift to get that Nationals or Phillies fan in your life to celebrate the Sharkiversary. They don't agree on much, but they both love the Shark.

But that's not all...by clicking on the link above, you'll also get a sneak preview at our new website!

Shark Attacks on the Rise in Philly.

For those of you who have been living under the sea, The Shark was released by the Nationals, but was quickly signed by the Phillies. Since then he has been on a roll and today demonstrated (twice!) to Phillie fans why he earned the nickname "The Shark."

First he had a home run saving catch at the wall:

Later in the game he had an amazing shark-like diving catch in center:

Oh and did we mention he hit a home run last night and a two RBI double today? It looks like The Shark is back and better than ever. Just in a different uniform.

We look forward seeing where The Shark makes landfall so we can continue to cheer for him.

Shark-a-rine Sharknado

Behold, the majestic Shark-a-rine, which will be given out to the first 1,000 fans this Saturday night at the Potomac Nationals game:

But that's not all! According to a shark-pun filled press release by the P-Nats, there will be some special guests throwing out the first pitch:
Paying credence to the original Washington Nationals fan duo that are responsible for the inception of Roger Bernadina's nickname, the "Sharkadina" crew of Terry and Tyler will be throwing out ceremonial first pitches at The Pfitz on the night of the Shark-A-rine giveaway. Terry and Tyler can be seen lurking around at Nationals Park rooting on Bernadina and the Nats while wearing hooded shark heads complete with full sets of pearly teeth to show their Sharkadina pride.
Hey! That's us! You do not want to miss this, loyal Shark fans. The game starts at 6:35 and the gates open at 5:00. You're going to want to get there early and sport your Sharkadina shirts and Shark hats and get ready to CHOMP.

SHARK VS PIRATES

The Shark started last night in the second game verse his favorite snack...  While he didn't get a hit, he did get hit by a pitch and scored a run.  His most important play of the game came in the ninth after the Nats took the lead in the top of the inning.  Using his Mako Shark speed, he cut off a Russell Martin hit in the gap and gunned him down at second base.  The play kept the pesky Pirates off the basepaths and sealed the Nats 5-4 win.

After the game, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle punished his least favorite player by dropping them off at Roger Bernadina's from door.  The above picture was snapped moments before the Shark's post game protein-laced meal.

Shark Vs Reds

Our long Nationals nightmare is over...The Shark finally got a hit last night! He is now 1-17, which is a batting average of .059, but he's moving in the right direction. After his hit, new Nationals #2 Denard Span drove old Nationals #2 (Bernadina) in with a triple, sealing the Nats 8-1 victory behind Gio's dominant pitching.

After the game, Brandon Phillips went to congratulate Bernadina, but The Shark's high five was a little overzealous. Here's a photo of the incident:

We are bringing a group of 25 Shark fans to the game tonight, turning the Scoreboard Walk into a Shark Tank! If you're at the game, swim on over and say Hi!

Shark vs....baby duck?

OK, at least three people have sent us this video or asked if we've seen it, so we have to post it. Basically what you're seeing here are some of Bernadina's fans in the animal kingdom. The cat is trying to replicate the Shark's moves in the outfield, as he sometimes gets a bad jump and takes long routes to the duck, but ultimately closes in and even sacrifices his body up against the wall, kind of like THE CATCH.

I guess the dog is Bryce "Hammerhead" Harper since he is clearly a hammerhead shark and looks like he could hit for power and round the bases pretty fast. The duck is Pete Kozma because he's really annoying...or is the duck the ball in the above analogy? I don't know. It's a pretty sweet video though. If you see cool shark videos be sure to tweet them to us!

SHARK VS CARDINALS

"It's time to get a little mad." Davey Johnson said this after last night's 0-2 loss to the Cardinals. The 10-10 Nats seem to be in a little bit of a slump and our beloved Shark is definitely in a slump, as he is now 0-16 and remains without a hit so far this season. Last night, we were in attendance as he came to the plate and struck out on another questionable strike call by the home plate ump.

So yes, Davey, it is time to get a little mad. No one is more mad than The Shark and he's ready to take a big ol' bite out of the Cardinals this afternoon.

Will today be the day he gets his first hit? Can the Nationals turn things around? Can someone please get Pete Kozma out? We go into today's game with more questions than answers.

Quick programming note: if you're going to the game on Friday, Sharkadina will be there in force with 25 Shark fans! It will be the largest concentration of Shark fans since Sharkadina Night! Come say Hi to us at the Scoreboard Walk if you'll be there!

SHARK VS METS

The Nats play the rubber match against the Mets today.

The Shark has been chomping at the bits, but is still looking for his first hit of the season.  He's hungrier than ever...
David Wright should make for a tasty treat.  THE METS ARE GOING TO BE SHARK CHUM!

SHARK VS MARLINS

Last night the Nationals strangled the Marlins with a 10-3 victory behind Jordan Zimmerman's complete game! Roger "The Shark" Bernadina got in the game during the 5th inning replacing The Great Werth. He got up to bat twice but is still looking for his first hit of the year. He is now 0-5 with one walk. Hopefully tonight he'll get back in the game, get on base, and start tackling Marlins.

SHARK VS BRAVES

The Nats lost a heartbreaker in extra innings to Braves last night for their first loss at home. We will be there on Sunday to help cheer them on and hopefully see Shark CHOMPS eat up the racist tomahawk chop. Here is a visual approximation of what might happen if Shark gets in the game:

I want to take a moment to break this down. Look into the giant baseball head's eyes. Don't they look pained? And doesn't his smile look more like a grimace? Does he always look like that or is it just when his arm is being eaten by a ferocious beast?

Secondly, ricK anKiel has either turned into the devil or is going goth? Also I thought he played for Bo Porter's Astros now? This photoshop clearly raises more questions than answers.

The Nats dropped two out three games to the Reds and The Shark only got to the plate twice. He has one walk and one strikeout so far this season. While the Nats are off today before they take on the White Sox at home, we leave you with this, created by super Nats twitter fan @jackobeam.

OBP SHARK

The bad: The Nationals 15-0 loss to the Reds last night.

The good: The Shark got his first AB of the 2013 season!

As is tradition for his first plate appearance, after the game, the Shark swam to the nearest ocean (Ohio River to Mississippi River to Gulf of Mexico to Atlantic Ocean) with the game used base, stood on a dock and honored his Shark brethren.  Congratulations Shark for your cool 1.000 on-base percentage.
The Shark pays tribute to his family
With a new-found sense of strength and inner peace, the Shark returned to Cincinnati with a fire in his eyes.  THE REDS ARE SHARK CHUM!

SHARK VS REDS

The Nationals swept the Marlins, but they face a much tougher test as they travel to Cincinnati to face Joey Votto and The Reds. The Shark is thirsty for some playing time and is circling the waters around the Reds...maybe because their name is the color of blood?

We're gonna need a bigger boat...
Remember the Shark ATTACKLE? Well The Nationals loved that term so much they gave us a shout-out on their official blog with the post A Shark Attackle 4 U. They did a photoshop contest and today posted some of the best. We'd like to post our favorite, or at least the one that embraces the ridiculous spirit of our own photoshops:

Congratulations @zachlwood! You clearly have skills with aquatic-themed-animal-sports-nicknamed image manipulation! Bonus points for the dorsal fin. We love a good dorsal fin.

We're Big in Florida

The Nats finished their feast on the Miami Marlins by winning their third game of the season and sweeping their NL East "rivals." We were disappointed that Shark did not get in the game even though he stood in the on deck circle twice. His lone contribution this season remains the famous SHARK ATTACKLE which helped bring in a run on Tuesday. Hopefully he will get some at bats in Cincinnati this weekend...

Terry's photoshop skills are getting better...which of these hoods aren't really there?
Sharkadina was at the game in force and much like Bryce Harper hitting two home runs in the first game of the year, we were featured on the jumbotron twice. But that's not all! Today also marked our return to the airwaves of Fox Sports Florida. You may remember last August when we were interviewed LIVE on the air by the very talented sideline reporter Allison Williams.

According to Shark fan @Steel6Rings who was watching in Florida we got "some serious face time" and were called "the Sharkadina dudes." We are waiting for the video to become available, but @ThatStatBoy provided us with this adorable screencap:

Tyler enjoys a Miller Lite while two other sharks get cozy...IT WAS COLD OUT, OK?
UPDATE: We have the video! Enjoy:

In the meantime...we are exactly four months away from the BEST GIVEAWAY EVER. Mark your calendars for August 3rd and join us at The Pfitz in Woodbridge for the Potomac Nationals game and get your very own half Bernadina half shark figurine. Keep checking the blog as we will continue to bring you breaking news regarding The Shark-a-rine.

Shark ATTACKLE!

Most fish are smart enough to stay out of the way of sharks. Marlins second basemen Donovan Solano is not the smartest fish in the sea and swam right into the path of a blood thirsty Shark tonight. Let's go to the tape.

Special shout out to Shark fan Danny (@recordsANDradio) for making that video and posting it.

After a great, but shark-less, opening day  the Nats notched another shutout with a 3-0 win over the Marlins in their second game of the season. Even though it was cold, the weather was much better than the the second game of 2011.

While we couldn't be there tonight, we did send super Shark fans Phil and KB to represent Sharkadina.

KB is DESTROYING Phil in fantasy baseball this week
You can also show your Sharkadina pride with an official Sharkadina shirt or your very own Shark hat!

If you missed us on Opening Day, don't fret, Terry and Tyler will be back at Nats Park tomorrow to close out the series against the Marlins. One more CHOMP for the sweep!

Opening Shark 2013

As noted yesterday: THE BASEBALL SEASON IS UPON US!

...and we at Sharkadina couldn't be happier.

Because we couldn't live with ourselves if we missed the first opportunity to see the Shark in action in the 2013 season, Shakadina attended our 3rd straight Nationals Opening Day (Year 1, Year 2).  The Shark didn't end up playing, but whatever, we could not miss the literal first chance that Shark could have possibly played this season (wildly confusing sentence).

We shaved off our playoff beards, (can't really consider Terry's a beard next to Tyler's) fabrezed the sh**k out of our hoods for the first time since January, reiterated to ourselves that we REALLY NEED TO GET THESE THINGS DRY CLEANED (they smell fine, the ketchup and BBQ sauce stains are not cute, though) and made our way to Nationals Park.

Then we sat in the sun and took a picture of ourselves.

We were VERY close to the seats we sat in for Game 4 of the NLDS last year (pause for Jayson Werth homage and montage) and we handed out as many business cards as we could.  Didn't even make a dent in our stock...

While sadly the Shark did not play, the game wasn't all bad.  A young prospect named Bryce Harper hit two home runs and another young gun (Stephen Strasburg) threw 7 shutout innings.  The Nationals ended up winning 2-0 without the Shark's help (which is an amazing feat itself).

We're looking forward to seeing more Nationals victories this year.  Even more so, we are looking forward to seeing the Shark in action in 2013.  While we won't be at the middle game of the series, we will be back on Thursday with 4 new Shark fans in tow.  Fish is still the Shark's favorite food and it's Marlin hunting season at Nationals Park.  CHOMP.

SHARK VS MARLINS 2013

THE BASEBALL SEASON IS UPON US!!!

The Nationals and the Shark are back in action on Monday, and Sharkadina will be there chomping for the win.  The Nats are going into the season as favorites to win the NL East and the Shark is going into the season ready to make that a reality.

The Miami Marlins will make for a nice snack on the Shark's journey to Feast on the East.

See you Monday.

Shark Vs Australia

In December 2007, a shark ate a kangaroo. You read that right, a shark ate a kangaroo. For those too lazy to read the actual BBC report I'll summarize it. Basically, a guy was walking his dog on the beach and saw a kangaroo bound out to sea and then get devoured by a shark. The guy told his friends about it and they all accused him of being drunk or high, because what are friends for, really, if not to believe you when you tell them the MOST AWESOME STORY EVER? Anyway, a second guy said he saw it too and then a kangaroo caracas was found on the beach and everyone was all like "OK, guy, I guess you weren't drunk or high, guy." If I was that guy, I would probably get some new friends. And never go into the ocean again.

It's unclear if the kangaroo had the logo for the Australian World Baseball Classic team branded on its hide or if the shark had a Dutch Honkbal teardrop tattoo, but we can only assume they did and the shark was warning the country of Australia they would lose a baseball game over five years later. In a world where sharks eat kangaroos, anything is possible.

Anyway, that's a long way of saying that Roger Bernadina and the Netherland's World Baseball Classic team plays Australia tonight at 11:30 EST. We'll bring you full coverage of the game and The Shark's performance tomorrow. Until then...stay out of the water. Especially if you are a kangaroo.

More to come.

Honkbal!

Let's Go Dutch! It's what I always say at the start of each date, just to make sure I'm not stuck with the full bill for a romantic night out at McDonald's.

It's also what I've been saying a lot this week as the Dutch baseball team has been playing in the World Baseball Classic. Except, they don't call it baseball. They call it by the much more fun sounding name "Honkbal." While it sounds like it could be a made up game involving geese or bad traffic, according to at least two sources (Alta Vista and Ask Jeeves), Honkbal means baseball. It was brought to the Netherlands in 1911 after some guy saw a game while on vacation in the good old U.S. of A. Ever since then, baseball (Honkbal!) has been...sort of popular in the Netherlands? As you can tell from Bernadina's interview last month they care a lot more about soccer and training glasses and are still confused about how baseball works (So...you're waiting in the outfield...what are you doing during that time?).

Despite that, baseball is much more popular in Dutch territories of Aruba and the Dutch Antilles (where The Shark is from). There are a lot of good upcoming players from the Netherlands, (like Jonathan Schoop a player in the Orioles farm system) and they actually won the 2011 Baseball World Cup, even without the Shark's help.

Now the Dutch Honkbalers are trying to defend their world dominance in the World Baseball Classic and have brought along the player with the World's Best Nickname (according to a survey of three of our friends). They already took a bite out of Korea, but were out honked by Chinese Tapei. Australia is the next stop on their quest to make "Honkbal!" a household name. OK, that probably won't happen, but if they beat Australia they can at least move on to the next round.

From the Sharkives:

Two years ago today: We use new technology to discover the burning flame of victory inside of The Shark.

One year ago today: Tyler discovers someone has photoshopped Bernadina's face over his own and muses on what it would be like to do a Face/Off or Freaky Friday situation with The Shark.

Shark vs Chinese Taipai

Yesterday The Shark devoured the Korean team with two RBI's while leading the Netherlands to a 5-0 win in their World Baseball Classic debut. And then, while most of America was sleeping, The Shark battled Chien-Ming Wang's team, Chinese Tapai, early Sunday morning. It didn't go as well as the first game, as the Netherlands Honkbalers lost 8-3 and The Shark went 0-4. Unfortunately, we had already made this image for the game which didn't prove to be true, but maybe happened in an alternate universe or something.

The Netherlands must now win against the team from down under on Monday night to have a chance to advance to the next round of the World Baseball Classic.

SHARK VS KOREA

The World Baseball Classic is upon us!

Roger Bernadina is representing Netherlands and his teammates are very excited to have the Shark on their team.  The first team Netherlands faces is Korea.

The Korean team has some strange practices to attempt to tame the Shark.

At the time of this posting, the human sacrifice technique has been less than successful, as the Netherlands lead 5-0 in the 7th inning.  The Shark has a double, an RBI, and a run scored. CHOMP.

UPDATE: The Netherlands beat Korea 5-0.  Roger Bernadina definitely MVP (Most Vicious Predator).

Disco Shark Hat

Hi,

Are you boring yourself to sleep every night because you have literally nothing to do since the 2013 baseball season hasn't started yet?

Do you have the following materials randomly lying around your apartment?
  • 1/2 to 1 inch thick Poly Foam
  • Disconium Fabric
  • Stretch velour (blood red)
  • Felt (white and black)
  • Thread (white and black)
  • Needle
  • Safety Pins
  • Scissors (fabric and utility)
  • Sewing machine
Well then thank the Shark creator you've decided to look at sharkadina.com right now because...

CHOMP! Happy Disco Shark Hat Day!

In one of our twice-hourly (48 times a day exactly) google searches for Roger+Shark+Bernadina, we uncovered this beauty.  With the combination of 70's style music and our favorite aquatic animal, this is deFINitely one of the best Roger Bernadina inspired caps we've seen in a long time.  Well done Henry (presumably that is your name)!

Happy Sharkiversary!

2 years have passed so quickly...

While the birth of the Shark nickname (and consequently the Shark movement) was August 26th, 2010, the blog that is Sharkadina was not formed until February 9th, 2011.  I know what some of you are thinking; if i can just go back in time 2 years, I can poison Terry and Tyler and ensure this stupidity doesn't happen.  Others of you may be thinking, two years ago today marked the beginning of my life (though those are most likely 2 year-olds, who happen to be surfing the web).  Others still may think, Sharkadina is okay in my book.  We like that third category of others the best.

Anyway, to commemorate the start of Sharkadina, here are excerpts from our first two posts, which were both written on the fateful day, February 9th, 2011:
Sharks
February 9th, 2011
There are a ton of sharks out there, but Roger Bernadina is by far the most ferocious. You need proof?
Angel Shark: Christopher Lloyd with fins
Bull Shark: Cross breeding different classes of animals is dangerous and disgusting
Mako Shark: If this type of shark wasn't so obscure, maybe Mike Morse could have been something.
Whale Shark: Just a confused fish
Roger Bernadina: One bad ass, rock star, hero of a Nationals outfielder

Lets make this year, "The Intimidating Time Period of the Carnivorous Fish/Nationals Baseball Player" or maybe something more simple.

Sharkadina Today

USA Today is one of the most recognizable newspapers in the world. They are perhaps most well-known for headlines such as "Martin McFly Junior Arrested for Theft" and "Hoverboard Rampage Destroys Courthouse" (same issue?).  And now an even more impressive headline joins it's ranks: "Half of Roger Bernadina to be Commemorated in Giveaway."
where we're going we don't need legs...we need fins!
The headline is obviously referring to the aptly named "Shark-a-rine." In his article, new friend of the blog Ted Berg breaks down the "one-of-kind, never before seen player figure" and starts with a little backstory about two of the best Washington-Nationals-aquatic-animal-baseball-player-fan-nicknamers (or just a couple of weirdos, depending on who you ask):
Two Nats fans gave him the nickname in 2010, then made up some hats and t-shirts and built a whole website about it. And why not? It's a strong nickname, far more clever than the standard shortened-name convention now unfortunately favored by fans and media everywhere –"R-Bern" or whatever.
We won't disagree with you, Ted, and even we would say that "R-Bern" is better than some other nicknames out there (cough Speed Racer cough...but we all know how that turned out).

Birth of a Shark Nation

Today marks a special day in Sharkadina lore.

Today marks a day of discovery (No, not the Discovery Channel, and their incredible Shark Week).

Today, we give a special shout out to Nationals Inquisition.

It seems like only yesterday (but it was actually two years ago) that the Nationals Inquisition blog wrote a post entitled, I Never Knew Roger Bernadina Was Nicknamed "The Shark."  The article marked the first time that someone had discovered how hard Tyler and I worked to give Roger Bernadina his aquatic nickname.  It chronicles and questions everything from the urban dictionary entry to the Shark's wikipedia page to Roger's own addition to www.RogerBernadina.com.

He even linked to a picture of us:
Two young Shark fans alone in the stadium
Clearly, NatsNQ did their research.  In the post, he invited us to e-mail him for a future post...which we did...which inevitably lead to the birth of the Sharkadina blog.

So today, we say thank you Nationals Inquisition, for your early support and your integral part in the Shark movement!

CHOMP.

NatsFest

Today was a good day.  It was a cool brisk morning and the perfect day to dust off the old Shark Hoods, which have been in cold storage since Game 5 of the NLDS (if anyone knows of a dry cleaner that specializes in aquatic-themed-animal-headgear, please let us know). We hopped on the Metro, which was shockingly on time, and headed to the Convention Center for the biggest event in the Nationals offseason, Natsfest.  Unlike NatsFest two years ago, we didn't have any mini sharks in tow so we could swim through the large crowds with relative ease.

Shark/Nats fans came from far and wide (most of which were likely from the greater-DC Metro area) to NatsFest to see/meet the players and get some autographs. While we were lucky enough to get autographs from Jordan Zimmermann and Tyler Moore (and Danny Espinosa...see below), the true highlight for us was meeting Shark fans! Here are a few of the (best) fans that stopped for a photo and to talk about their favorite Shark:

We also FINALLY met one of the all-time greatest Shark fans, who was featured right here on this blog a couple months ago. That's right, we met SharKIDina and his family! Jawsome! All of you Shark fans we spoke to were great and displayed some serious Sharkitude.  Thanks for the support!

"Roger Bernadina Shark-A-rine"

Who wants to come with us to a Potomac Nationals game? They just released their Promo Schedule...

The Washington Nationals outfielder that has been dubbed, "The Shark," Roger Bernadina (2006), will be memorialized in a half-man, half-shark figurine that the P-Nats front office has christened, "The Shark-A-rine." This one-of-a-kind, never before seen player figure will serve as a rendering of Bernadina's days hunting down fly balls in the outfield gaps at The Pfitz like a hungry shark chases its prey.

They haven't released the date yet, but we will be sure to let you know so we can have the whole stadium CHOMPing!

And Now...Dazzled Kid! (Dutch Interview Part II)

Earlier this month, Roger Bernadina was interviewed on Dutch Radio. We posted some highlights of the interview in which he talks about us, our website, and the nickname. But, with our reputation as one of the top 3 Washington-Nationals-aquatic-animal-nicknamed-baseball-player-fan-blogs, we are required to post a transcript of the entire interview. Thank you Shark fan @MartijnBeenker for the translation!

Introducing #33, Roger "The Shark" Bernadina

The Shark is now number 33!

We reported a couple of weeks ago that the Shark was changing numbers.  All we knew then was that Denard Span would be donning #2 this coming season.  At that point, we had no idea what number Shark would take.

The Shark cleared that up on twitter this morning.  As soon as we saw it, we realized him much sense #33 made...
He was destined to use #33 eventually...
We are very happy for the Shark, though this does mean that we will have to somehow get our hands on another game used jersey.  Our current one is now obsolete...

Shark Avoids Arbitration

It's official.  Roger Bernadina is the first Shark to make over a million dollars.

The Shark avoided arbitration today by re-signing with the Nationals.  This year, he will be making $1,212,500 and can earn up $130,000 more in incentives.  Congratulations Shark! We're really happy for you.

We leave you with this by Rob the Doodler.  He's clearly a huge Shark fan!

Two Sharks One Coat

Hello from a couple of losers!

Yesterday, the Nationals blog Curly W Live held a contest with a prize like none other. "We will pick one lucky fan to join us in the press box for a 2013 Nationals home game and write a post for Curly W Live."  The guidelines: All you have to do is state your case in the comments below. Keep it under 250 words.

Naturally, we had to try. So we posted:

Hi, we are Tyler and Terry, not a couple, but a couple of die-hard Nats fans who happen to have created/write for www.Sharkadina.com.  Ever since nicknaming Roger Bernadina “The Shark” on August 26, 2010, Sharkadina has been a popular and distinct voice in the Nats fan community.  We arguably run the best Washington-Nationals-aquatic–animal-nicknamed-baseball –player-fan- blog (definitely in the top 3) on the internet.  We would like to bring that top-3 attitude to you at Curly W Live.

Here are some things you can expect when we cover a game for Curly W Live:
  • Original fleece shark hoods (no matter how hot it is outside, or inside the booth).
  • Poor attempts at Photoshopped images of baseball players and Sharks.
  • Animal nicknames for everyone (players, coaches, you)
  • A plethora of obscure baseball facts
  • Shameless rooting for our favorite player (THE SHARK)
All this and more, will be provided to you, assuming you let us into the booth.

On our end, sure we would benefit from the exposure, but honestly, we think that nothing would be more beautiful than being in the press box and seeing 40,000 Nats fans on their feet doing the Shark Chomp when Bernadina bats…which is all we really want.

Finally, if it turns out that you will only bring one person into the booth for this, we promise to buy an extra long trench coat, place Terry on Tyler’s shoulders and go by the name of Tylerry for the entire night.

Jawsome Dutch Interview

Roger Bernadina was interviewed on Dutch Radio yesterday and it was Jawsome, which, as the radio host explained to her listeners is "Awesome with a capital J." The interview covered a range of topics, most of which we couldn't understand because we don't speak dutch. The Google Translated summary is: "In baseball-loving countries, he is a superstar. But when I call his name, then I do not think anyone here in the Netherlands when a light comes on; ballplayer Roger "The Shark" Bernadina." Sounds about right. Thankfully, some of our international Twitter followers came to our rescue with highlights and quotes. If you do speak Dutch, or are a true hardcore Sharkadina fan, you should watch the webcam version of the interview.

Our Twitter follower @KeijzerJasper provided us with a rundown of topics covered: our website, how he got the shark nickname, how proud he is of the nickname, his MVP catch (referred to as the Shark Dive), the World Baseball Classic, his daily routine, baseball in general, concentration during the game and Strobe Eyewear in pre-game.

In the interview, you can clearly hear them talking about sharkadina.com and see them visiting the website on air (around the 4:00 minute mark):

Shark Number

Although yesterday might have been the biggest day in Tyler's life (or definitely in the top 1500 days ever), today was arguably the  biggest day for the Washington Nationals this offseason.  It ranks up there with this awesome day. In a shocking announcement, new National Denard Span will be wearing the Shark's number this year:
Span wore number 2 while playing for the Minnesota Twins and apparently got the Shark's okay to continue wearing it.   That said, Twitter was not so sure about this:

After the dust settled from the atom bomb announcement, the next question arose: What number will the Shark wear?

Happy Birthday Tyler!

So I had this post all written up about how the Redskins loss yesterday was the sickeningly perfect blind carbon copy of the Nationals NLDS Game 5 loss last October.  It went on to discuss how the Shark's preseason training methods were going to inspire and drive the Nationals to victory.  How the unstoppable pitching staff was going to combine with the Shark led "Eat-Em-And-Weep-Offense" (a term I believe I just coined) to push the Nationals to a World Series victory.  Honestly, it was a pretty good post.  But then I remembered...

TODAY IS TYLER STOLTENBERG'S BIRTHDAY!

So none of that matters, it is much more important to take a page from the June 12, 2011 handbook and celebrate the taller and more bearded half of Sharkadina.

So help me celebrate Tyler by enjoying with him these Shark themed birthday cakes I found online:
