Last Shark Standing/Hitting

Well, the Nationals season is over, and they couldn't quite squeak out the +.500 season we were hoping for, ending at 80-81.  Still, its 11 more wins than they had last season which is something to brag about.  They ended in third place, behind the Phillies and the Braves and ahead of the Marlins and the Mets.  Not too shabby at all.

Additionally, guess who had the final hit of the 2011 season?  The Shark
Guess who had the final RBI?  The Shark
Guess who will go down in history as the greatest hitter of the 2011 season?  The Shark

The Shark was the exclamation point at the end of the improvement season and I hope this exclamation point will help drive the Nats to the 2012 postseason.

It has been a lot of fun following the Shark this season and as promised, there will be a Season in Review post coming shortly.  Tyler is on a trip up to Boston, where I pray he rubs the Red Sox' epic collapse in the face of anyone wearing a B on their hat.  Because of this trip, you will just have to be patient for the Review...

In the meantime, I will leave you with something which is mostly unrelated.  Tyler and I have appeared on the Jumbotron something like 10 times this season (with two Fan of the Game Trophies under our belt as the highlight of those appearances), and apparently it runs in the family.  My cousin and uncle appeared on the Jumbotron at a Philadelphia Phillies game recently.  Regrettably, they are Phillies fans, but I love them anyway.  Anyway, my aunt e-mailed out this picture, which I presume means it is public domain??  They look so happy cheering for their Phillies!

Now look at the score.  GO NATIONALS!

More to come.

2 in Sharksight

Amidst a tight wildcard race in both the AL and NL, the Shark and the Nats are battling for their own positive end to the season.  With only 2 games left in the year, the Nationals are fighting their way to their first winning (81-80, .503) season since 2003 (when they were the Montreal Expos). The Nationals, led in part by the Shark and his intimidating ballplayer presence, are ripping through opponents, like regenerating teeth tearing through the soft gills of a flounder. The Nats have won 8 of their last 9 and 13 of their last 16...

Let me repeat that, "The Nats have won 8 of their last 9 and 13 of their last 16."

THOSE ARE RIDICULOUS NUMBERS!!!

Sadly, Tyler and I attended the 3 losing games in that stretch.....

But do not fear, we aren't heading to Florida today or tomorrow so if we were the cause of those losses, we can't affect the next 2...  We can, however, hope and pray that Davey Johnson starts The Shark for the last two games to GUARANTEE VICTORY.  After all, SHARKS LOVE TO FEAST ON MARLINS!

Need proof?  Click these examples:  Example 1, Example 2, Example 3, Example 4, Example 5, Example 6

In other news:
Mako Morse has clearly been this season's MVP, hitting his 30th sharkadelic home run, yesterday which not only helped the team come from behind, but also helped power my fantasy baseball teams to commanding leads.  He now has 94 RBIs, leaving him in need of a strong 6 RBI last two games to finish the year with 100...  I believe in you Mako!

Tyler and I will be watching the last two games of the season closely.  Let's grab those last two wins!

Final Shark Night

Sadly, Tyler and I went to our last baseball game of the 2011 season...  A "Season in Review" post will happen at the end of the season, providing such useless stats as how many games we saw, the Shark's stats at the games attended, the Nationals win-loss record, and some other sh**k.

But anyway, you will have to wait for that (or delete this blog from your recently viewed websites and pretend we don't exist),  because this post is about last night.

Things weren't looking great leading up to the game.  It rained literally all day long and there was a "soak watch," which apparently meant the ground was so saturated that if the rain came down hard enough, flash floods were inevitable.  While this seemed like something that the Shark would thrive with, it also began to look like these tickets were cursed.  Tyler bought these tickets for half price for a game in April, then when that was rained out, we rescheduled for the Dodgers series a few weeks ago. That game was rained out too, but it turned out third time was a charm because the rain cleared just in time for last night's game.

We got to the park early and went to the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk, one of our favorite pre-game hangouts. We finally got a chance to try Shake Shack (burgers were great, but a little small) and met longtime Shark supporter @SodaPop6548.  We had a great time chatting about the playoff races and baseball stats until Terry (This is Tyler, who has taken over writing this post. Confusing, I know, but deal with it.) was pulled away to film Fan of the Game (more on that below).

We made our way to our seats near the LF foul pole and got ready for a mostly Shark-less game. Bernadina didn't start, but Stephen Strasburg did.  Unfortunately, he didn't look like his normal self and gave up 3 runs in the first inning.  While the Nats struggled to come back, Terry and I spent the time making friends in the stands.  We sat next to a great family with a cute little girl who put on a Shark hood during the game (you can see her at the end of the video below).  And we ran into our friends and Shark supporters Michelle and Lex.

This is Michelle's friend and new Shark Fan.

We met a ton of great people who read this blog or follow us on Twitter!  And we made new friends, like Mako Morse's high school friend who we rode the Metro with after the game.  If you said Hi to us last night and you're reading this, leave a comment so we know who you are!

Remember when I won Fan of the Game?  Well, it was finally Terry's turn and he won too!

The Shark finally came out in the bottom of the 9th to pinch hit. We got our whole section cheering and we watched on the edge of our seats as he battled to a full count.  Shark struck out swinging and the Nats lost 7-4.  We just weren't in the mood to watch the post game fireworks.  We charged up Terry's phone and made our way back to outside of the clubhouse/player's parking lot in hopes of talking to The Shark for the final time this season.

The last time we were back there we got to go inside, but this time we were stuck outside of the gate with autograph vultures and kids who would run in front of players cars and even CHASE STRASBURG'S CAR DOWN THE STREET.  I'll be honest, some of these fans were pretty embarrassing.  Although it was cool seeing all of the players leave in their expensive, expensive cars.

Much like last time, Bernadina was one of the last to come out, and as soon as he saw us waiting outside the gate with the "unwashed masses" he waved us back and told the security guard we were cool.  Just like in the movies!

We chatted with him and his entourage, Andrew and Sol, for a good 20 min.  Some of our conversation is confidential, but we can tell you that we talked a lot about how awesome "The Shark" nickname is and made big plans to grow his fan base going into next season.  Bernadina will be in Curacao for the offseason and we all hope he will back with The Nats next year.  Oh, we also all talked about Bill Ladson and how horrible the Speed Racer nickname is.

Every time we have talked with Roger in person this season, he has been nothing but gracious with us.  For a professional sports player to take the time to talk with two random, crazy guys who nicknamed him out of nowhere is really awesome.  We wanted to do something thank him for everything he's done for us, including the autographs, like the one Terry got last night:

Last night we gave Roger Bernadina one of the original Shark hoods.  The yellow-eyed Shark is currently sitting in his locker at Nats Park. He promised to wear in the clubhouse to help spread the Shark nickname with the media and even said he might wear it out on the field before batting practice today or tomorrow!

Just because the season is coming to close, doesn't mean Sharkadina will be going away.  We will be your source for exclusive Roger Bernadina news during the offseason and will continue to bring you information on The Nats, baseball, and actual Sharks.  Don't worry, the photoshops and our unique brand of Shark related humor will continue through the winter!

SHARK EATS PHILLY: Part 4

Quick poll:

How would you prefer the Shark to close season against the Phillies?
  • Going 2 for 4 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and a SB or...
  • Making a Great-White-Shark-Breaching-To-Devour-A-Seal style catch
To quote the Iron Man clip played when the Nationals are losing at the end of the game, "Is it too much to ask for both?"

That is exactly what Roger Bernadina did tonight against the Phillies.  He was playing at the 5 tool level we all know he is capable of.  His double and single sparked the offense while his defensive prowess backed Brad Peacock's  (the only member of the Nationals Zoo who doesn't need a nickname) gem.  Despite Mako Morse's attempts to steal the glory with a 3 run home run (which I will admit did help both my fantasy baseball teams), the Shark was the reason that the Nationals won this game.

The Nationals ended the 4 game Phillies series with 4 wins (the first time the Phillies lost 4 in a row since.... last year?) which brought them one giant leap closer to a .500+ season (it is statistically impossible for them to have a .500 record, feel free to ask me why).  Tonight's win brought their record to 76-79, meaning over the rest of the season, they have to go 5-1.  After watching the Nats outpitch and outplay the Phils, I am very confident that the Shark can lead them to 81 wins!

Why?

BECAUSE HE IS ON FIRE!

Apparently, it can happen!
The Shark has 5 hits in his last 14 ABs (.357 BA) with a home run, 2 defensive jewels, and 5 RBI's!  Literally (figuratively) on fire.

SHARK EATS PHILLY: Part 2 (and 3)

After Roger "The Shark" Bernadina's JAWESOME home run in yesterday's victory over the Phillies, he came through in the second game of the double header with his defensive prowess.  He didn't start the second game, but came in for the bottom of the 9th to patrol right field with Shark skills.  He proved again why he is called the Shark (and not Speed Racer). He closed on Jimmy Rollins' hit like a Shark sensing blood in the water and then devoured it like a Hammerhead ripping into the sweet flesh of an exotic tropical fish. Yes, the catch was that good.  And yes, it's been awhile since we've had a colorful Shark metaphor.

After that catch, Drew Storen struck out the last two batters and the Nats won 3-0. They won both games of the double header and it was even sweeter because it was against the evil Phillies.  The Phillies players and fans probably support Shark Finning.

The Nats played another great tonight game and The Shark had a beautiful double, his 11th of the season.  The Nats won 7-5 and have won 3 in a row and 9 out of their last 11.  They are in 3rd place in the NL East with a record of 75-79.

They have their final homestand this weekend against the Braves, with Terry and I attending our final game on Friday (if we don't get rained out for the 3rd time with the same tickets...). Strasburg is pitching and we're hoping to say goodbye and good luck to Shark for the off season.

SHARK EATS PHILLY: Part 1

In the first game of today's doubleheader, the Shark feasted on the Philadephia Phillies, and ideally some of their fans.  With the game locked at 0 in the 7th, the Shark CRUSHED a 3-run home run into the second deck in Right Field.  The no-doubter broke the game open.  While the Phillies came back to tie the game at 3, Roger Bernadina blasted the Nats with enough confidence to win the opening game and ultimately, eat half the city...

Sharky Birthday Party

For the first time since the first two games of the season, Tyler and I went back-to-back with Nationals games.  There were six Shark fans on Friday, and despite saying "what up" to the Shark before the game, the Nats fell to the pesky Marlins.

To top Friday, last night, we were part of a group of 12.  In what will likely go down as the greatest birthday party in the history of the Sharkadina, my cousin Lucia and 5 of her friends, donned the Shark hoods, and celebrated turning 9 the best way possible... Cheering for Bernadina.

The hoods were used in the matter of which they were designed: for use by children (don't tell Tyler).   The kids did there part in spreading the Shark love, describing the origin of the nickname to everyone who asked about the hoods and cheered ferociously when the Shark was visible on the field.

We were sitting in Section 305, which meant we really had to squint to see the Shark, but as he was the only non-human on the field, in addition to the dorsal fin, piercing through the back of his uniform, he wasn't too hard to spot.

Wait, which one is the Shark?
RIGHT THERE! YESSSSSSS!!!
It has been a long time since I was with a group of fans who cheered as loudly as this group did. Their enthusiasm rippled through the section, igniting a Shark spirit, which hasn't been seen since June 22nd.  Additionally, it was nice to see that their enthusiasm about the Shark and the Nationals was not affected by the outcome of the game... The Nationals lost 4-1 and the Shark ended 0-4.  He did come up with a man on second and nobody out in the 11th, but Davey Johnson ordered him to sacrifice Daddy Desmond over, instead of allowing him to win the game (COME ON DAVEY!).

Overall I had a good time and I hope those kids did too.  Additionally, I hope they tell all their friends about the Shark, and they tell all their friends, who tell their friends, until everyone knows Roger Bernadina is the Shark and will always be.

Side notes:
  • The last game Tyler and I will be at this season is next Friday night.  To everyone who is planning to attend that game: deck out in Shark gear. Lets have one more Shark Night of 2011.
  • To everyone who didn't tell me on Friday that Werth and Morse weren't starting... Sh**k off.
  • The Fantasy Baseball Playoffs have come down to the last day of the week for Tyler and I. We are tied as of 3:30PM with a ticket to the championship on the line.  Tyler (The Shark CHOMPians) has to win against me (The Shark Tank) in order to advance, because I took the season series 10-9.
And it all starts... RIGHT NOW.
Last week of the season, means it is the last chance for the Shark to feast on Major League pitching.  Expect a late season feeding frenzy.

Shark Photopalooza

Well last night's game wasn't too good for the Nats (lost 3-0) or the Shark (0-4 with two strikeouts) but it was good for getting Shark pictures!

Before the game, Terry and I went down to the field to talk to the Shark. He showed us the healed gash on his hand and we talked about how excited we were to have back in the starting lineup.  Our Twitter friend @sherry327 snapped a few pictures of the pre-game Shark conference:

Right after this he touched Terry's Arm!

Check out the Jaws on my sleeve!

The secret Shark handshake!

Waving to Zac and Elizabeth

Shark-a-vision

During the game, we ran into a huge Shark Fan, Brian!  He was sitting a few rows ahead of us and came back to chat about The Shark during the game. We had an extra hood, so we let him keep it for the rest of the game!

We love your Shark enthusiasm, Brian!
The Shark was struggling, so we tried to combine our Shark powers to give him strength, but it didn't work. :(

With our powers combined...

We were also finally on MASN last night! Here you can see us before the game. Terry is attentively looking at the dugout for the emergence of The Shark, I am and enjoying a beverage and Zac and Elizabeth are no doubt debating the decision to sit Mako Morse and Jayson Werth for Bernadina and Nix (or something like that).

This is why I record Nats Talk!
There wasn't much to celebrate last night, but the good news is Terry and I going to the game again tonight! And Stephen Strasburg is pitching! It's Terry's little cousin (remember her?) birthday and she is having a Shark themed party at Nats Park (maybe we'll make one of these cakes)! Look for little girls running around in Shark hoods in the upper deck tonight! The Shark is batting second and playing right field tonight and he surely won't disappoint the Shark Birthday Party!

Shark Starts!

The Nats are on a five game win streak, they are in 3rd place in the NL East, and, oh yeah, ROGER "THE SHARK" BERNADINA IS FINALLY BACK IN THE STARTING LINE-UP!

First he was sent down to the minor leagues, then he cut his hand open on a typical, sweet, Shark-style diving play making him unable to grip a bat.  Over the past week or so he entered the game occasionally as a pinch runner and last night in the Nats 10-1 crushing of the Mets he proved he could bat with a single in the 9th.

The timing could not be better. Terry and I plus four of our friends will be at the game tonight.  That means SIX SHARK HOODS cheering on first base side.  We'll be hard to miss tonight! Look for us on MASN and on the jumbotron.

I have a feeling the Shark will help propel the Nats to their sixth straight win tonight against the Marlins. He does love to devour fish.  With Mako Morse and The Great Werth out of the lineup (don't tell Terry...he's starting them in the Fantasy playoffs against me) it's up to the Loch Nix Monster and Bernadina to bring the SHARK MODE!

It's just the food chain...

P.S. Thanks to everyone who voted for us for CBS Washington's Most Valuable Sports Blog. We lost to some Washington Wizards Blog. I'm sure we would have one if they had a category for Best Animal Themed Sports Player Nickname Blog.

PR Shark

While the Shark is still hampered by his hand injury, which has limited his playing time, he has still managed to dominate on the base paths.

By that, I mean Davey Johnson has used the Shark as a pinch runner. While that may not seem like much to you, it means that he is getting better. He is healing. Soon he will be bigger, stronger, and faster than ever. Watch out NL East...

Also, since this post is called PR Shark, I am going to spin this a little more. Barring the improbable, the Shark will be at full strength by tomorrow. By next Friday, when Tyler, myself, Jumpin Zac Flash, Elizabeth, and two mystery Sharkadina's arrive at the game, the Shark will be at super strength. The most powerful player in the league.

Watch out for him this week. He's ravenous for fresh opposing player meat.

iPhone Sharkadina

Dear Google,

Thank you for finally creating an App that allows me to easily rest sharkposts from my phone. I wish you had created it earlier, for example, when I was traveling to Michigan/Chicago over Labor Day Weekend, but I will take what I can get.

Yours in love,
Terry

And now for an update on the Shark:

His hand is still cut. He didn't play in the opening game of today's double header. Also, he is flooding the DC metropolitan area, to make his work environment a little more like his home life. Nationals Park's center field will literally be an ocean when the Shark gets back out there.

Unfortunately, rain means canceled games...which is totally lame if you had tickets to yesterday's game and were jerked around by Bill Ladson's tweets... First the game was unofficially called, then unofficially on, then when we get off the Metro, it is officially called! What the Sh**k?!? Come on!! Speed Racer is not a good nickname (in case anyone thought suddenly that "Speed Racer" was a worthwhile addition to society)! It's terrible! You betrayed my trust, Bill!

The next game Tyler and I (and 4 other Shark fans) will be at a game, which we will get there via lifeboat, will be next Friday, September 16th. Keep an eye out for us!

Dear Davey Johnson,

Make sure that you start the Shark. Then we will be happy. Like this:

Yours forever and always,
Terry

Shark Sliced

ALRIGHT METS, WHO WAS IT?!?!

Who jammed a sharktonite tainted razor blade into second base yesterday, knowing that the Shark would slice his hand on it while sliding into the bag?!

I know it was you, Jason Isringhausen!  OR MAYBE IT WAS YOU JUSTIN TURNER!  Why does he hate sharks so much.  He's such a fishist.  Willie Harris...?  You lost your job fair and square last year.  Everyone prefers the Shark to you, pal!  Josh Satin, I don't know who you are, and I absolutely don't trust you.  DANIEL HERRERA, you have a sick and twisted mind.  You filthy animal!

Whoever it was, (I'm looking at you, Lucas DUDA) the Shark is now sidelined for a week to recover from the injury.  He isn't sidelined from seeking his revenge on every person of the Mets organization, which he will do until he plays ball again.

Tyler and I are going to the game tomorrow (can't believe we just missed Strasburg) so keep an eye out for the hoods.  We'll cheer for the Shark, regardless of the fact that he isn't playing.

I WANT TO MAKE A SIGN!

De Haii is terug!

Hello Loyal Shark Fans!

We've waited a long time, but the time if finally here! SHARK IS BACK IN ACTION IN DC.  Sharkadina is happy to report that we have confirmed Roger Bernadina's call-up from Triple-A Syracuse back to the Major League Washington Nationals. The news broke last night when Roger Bernadina wrote "De haai is terug!" on Facebook.  It was easy for us to translate since we know how to say "Shark" in every language.  He wrote: "The Shark is Back!"

It is not a coincidence that this is happening just days before Stephen Strasburg's first start in DC this year.  Apparently, after Strasburg's Aug. 27 start for Syracuse in which Bernadina blasted a lead off home run in the 1st (video with announcers calling him the Shark coming soon) and followed up with a RBI double in the 6th, Strasburg told Nats GM Mike Rizzo: "I will never pitch in DC again unless The Shark is in the line-up."  The Nationals management scrambled to backtrack on their previous mistreatment of Bernadina and made sure to promote him before Starsburg's first major league start this year.

I expect the Strasburg/Shark combo to prove deadly for many teams including the Dodgers next Tuesday night at Nats Park.

GET READY FOR SHARKTEMBER.

Million Shark March

The world appears to be falling apart without the Shark on the Nats roster...

Or more appropriately, sharks appear to be tearing the world apart.

As many of you experienced, there was an earthquake yesterday, August 23rd, at approximately 1:50 PM.  Thankfully no one was killed in it and scientists quickly jumped to the conclusion that a quake in the Rockies led to the one on the East Coast.  This has recently been debunked.  Apparently,  over a million Shark fans (coincidentally all sharks) rammed into some tectonic plates in the Atlantic to make a point.

Said one rather flustered Bull Shark, "It is nearly impossible to get your voice heard when all the humans on earth refuse to listen.  Yesterday we made a point.  Promote the Shark!"

Chet, a laid back looking Whale Shark threatened, "If the Nats don't bring the Shark back up, the earth is gonna keep shaking.  Catch my drift?"

If the Nationals Organization has any respect for the human race, they will heed the warnings and promote the Shark ASAP.    We now know the power of the Shark...

Tyler and I will be at the game tonight.  Keep an eye out for hoods and signs.

More to come.

Nats need Shark to FEAST on Phillies

The Nats playing the Phillies are some of my favorite moments of the year.  To the Phillies, the Nats are just another team 20+ games back in the division race with a losing record.  To the Nats, a chance to prove themselves as a team, prove they are contenders, prove they belong in the USA and not in taiga outskirts of Montreal.  As I came to realize yesterday, if the Nats want to do that, they need to FREE THE SHARK.

Following a beautiful Ryan Zimmerman walkoff homerun on Friday night, the Nationals looked a bit dead at the plate last night.  I was there with my friend Calder, as Tyler was busy... doing something?  We started in our standard nosebleed, Section 226 seats, but moved way down to Section 109 after the 5th inning.  Besides the few Phillies fans who were making offensive gestures in my direction (or maybe it was just their faces), the fans in our immediate vicinity were amazingly friendly and docile.  They talked the talk of the stereotypical Phillies fans, wanting to run on the field naked, shoot the mascots with BB guns, and throw up on each other, but they kept those actions suppressed.

Somewhat upsettingly, in my estimate, at least 3/4 of the stands were filled by Phillies fans.  Whenever the crowd cheered, I had to figure out whether the Nats had a hit or an out.  More often than not it was an out...

I GOT A BOBBLEHEAD THOUGHIan Desmond didn't do anything at the plate, nor in the field....  At least he's a good dad!  I knew it was going to be a tough day for him, when I opened the box and his leg was snapped in half....bad juju.

The Shark has been his standard intimidating self in the minors and I hope the Nats call him up soon.  He's a danger to everyone in the minors, because he's better than everyone else combined.  I want to see the Shark feasting on the Phillies, because nothing would make me happier.  Nothing. Nothing at all.   Also, I want to do more Shark Vs. images, and finding high quality pictures of minor league teams, is tricky.

In finality. VOTE FOR SHARKADINA!!!!

Ty and I are going to the Nats game on Wednesday.  Free the Shark!

Nats and Chiefs both lose 2-1

First off, did you vote for Sharkadina yet today?  You can just click the handy badge directly to the right of this text.  Go ahead, do it now, I'll wait....

THANK YOU!  We know that a lot of those blogs nominated are awesome and very informational, but are any of them as strange or specific as ours?  I didn't think so, and doesn't that count for something in the blogging world?  Now, onto the news...

The Shark went 2-3 last night, but had a mixed night running the bases.  He had 1 SB, but was also caught stealing and picked off during the game.  The Chiefs were being aggressive in the close game, but they ended up on the losing end of the pitchers duel, 2-1.  Roger Bernadina's AVG is now .252 and Brad Peacock takes the mound tonight in the third game of the series against the Braves.

Meanwhile, back in DC, the Sharkless-Nationals lost by the same score.  We've lost a lot of 1 run games this year, but this was particularly painful.  Ryan Zimmerman led off the bottom of the 9th with a solo home run and the next few batters managed to load the bases with only one out.  All Wilson "The Buffalo" Ramos had to do was hit a sac fly and the game would be tied.  I'll give you one guess on what actually happened: game ending double play goundball to second on the first pitch.  Nats fans everywhere went from excited to depressed in exactly . 63 seconds.

Well, I have some news that might cheer you up!  Nats Manager Davey Johnson listed Roger Bernadina as a potential September call-up!  Here is the quote, from Federal Baseball:

Still it was a surprise to many when Nats' Skipper Davey Johnson, in mentioning the names of potential September call-ups like outfielders Corey Brown and Roger Bernadina, middle infielder Stephen Lombardozzi, first baseman Chris Marrero and pitchers Tom Milone, Brad Peacock, Craig Stammen, Yunesky Maya and Atahualpa Severino, mentioned that Michael Morse might spend some time in left field to allow Marrero to get a look at first and allow Morse to prepare for next season when Adam LaRoche is likely to return at first.
That's right everybody...gear up for SHARKTEMBER!

MVS: Most Valuable Shark

MIN: Most Important News

Stunningly, the Sharkadina Blog has been nominated for a Most Valuable Blogger Award by CBS Washington (Don't worry, I didn't know there were valuable bloggers either).  You may not think we are valuable but show your love of the Shark by voting every day!  The task is simple....

Go to the CBS MVB Washington Sharkadina Page: http://washington.blogger.cbslocal.com/most-valuable-blogger/blog/1137-sharkadina/

Click the giant green (it's red) button that says Vote for this Site... and voila, you're screen should now look like this:

The voting runs through September 9th, so you should totally vote every day (because you can) on every computer/phone/web browser you have (because you can).  Your support is great(white shark)ly appreciated!  Now go make Bernadina proud!

MLU: Minor League Update

The Shark has had some time to rest lately.   When you last heard from us, on Sunday, the Shark had led the Chiefs to victory the night prior and was ready to go on a tear.  Then, it started raining... and it kept raining forever, and the world was washed away, and you, the reader of this blog turn out to be the last human survivor.  Nevermind, that didn't happen.  However, Sunday's game was postponed and then the double header makeup on Monday was cancelled too.  The Shark toured the world in this time,  searching for human survivors of the flood.  I digress again.

On Tuesday, the Chiefs opened a series against the Gwinnett(doesn't sound like a real place to me) Braves.  Powered by a well rested Shark, the Chiefs obliterated the Braves 13-4The Shark went 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.  His RBIs came in the first inning when he homered to give the Chiefs the lead.  You can listen to the call on the Audio highlights.  I have said it before but the Chiefs Radio Broadcasters are the best.  Calling Bernadina the Shark, just flows off the tongue so well!

SOT: Shark on Twitter

Roger Bernadina has a Twitter account! @RogerTheShark  It really is a good twitter name...

Finally:
I completely wrecked the style of this blogpost with the above "Finally:".  Oh well.  Tyler, Elizabeth, Zac, and I  (picture will come when I get one from Zac) went to the Nationals game last night!  It was a lot of fun as the Nationals beat the Braves 6-4.  The outfield made the spectacular Shark-like plays.  That said, FREE SHARK.  PROMOTE BERNADINA RIGHT NOW!

Shark Trick

If you were noticing that these posts have been short recently... you've noticed correctly!  This one is probably no different, unless I go on a long tangent and use run on sentences that never seem to end but don't necessarily seem to ramble until the point that they become so long that I feel self concious that people won't understand that I am doing on purpose...

Anyway...

The Syracuse Chiefs won again last night, beating the Yankees 4-2. The Shark was a major component of the victory, going 1 for 4 with a stolen base.  His biggest contribution came in the 7th, when, with the Chiefs down 2-1, he singled with 2 outs to continue the inning.  He promptly stole second base, and lurked there, waiting patiently...  The following batter then struck out... BUT the Yankees pitcher threw wildly, and the Shark, with his eyes on the prize, didn't stop at third on the bad throw, and instead crossed home plate knotting the game at 2.  Shark is tricky!  The Chiefs scored two more in the next inning to seal the victory.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, the Nationals could have used the Shark, because he might have helped prevent the embarrassing 11-3 loss that the Nats suffered.  I would estimate that the Shark would have robbed about 8 of the runs that the Phillies scores, which would have meant a 3-2 victory.  I mean, there is no official guarantee that this is the case, but I can pretty much promise you that the Nats would have won in the Shark played.

In other Shark-news, the Anti-Shark, Logan Morrison was recently demoted to AAA from the Marlins.  Said the organization, "if Roger Bernadina isn't playing, there really is no need for the Anti-Shark."  Here's hoping their lifelong battle continues in the minors...

Peacock + Shark = Deadly

Who knew that a Shark coupled with a Peacock could make such a deadly combination.  Last night, in Syracuse, Brad Peacock twirled a gem, giving up just 1 run in 5 and 2/3 innings, while striking out 9 leading to a 7-4 Syracuse win over the Yankees. His inspiration, Roger "the Shark" Bernadina.

"I know that it is silly," Peacock explained after the game, "but with the Shark on the Chiefs, I feel like I'm already in the Show.  He has major league talent and experience and knowing he's patrolling center field, gives me a confidence which is almost impossible to describe.  I feel like a fruit bat"

Nobody really knew what he meant by the "fruit bat" comment, but they let it slide because he pitched so well.  Also, they ignored the fact that Bernadina went hitless in the game (0-4).  They (the people of earth) know what the Shark can do and know the importance of his presence in a lineup.  Both of these men will get a call-up before the year is over.  Hopefully sooner than later...

Brad Peacock and Roger Bernadina pose after the game
Meanwhile in the majors, the Nationals are fighting to get their record back to .500 and beyond.  Beating the Phillies last night 4-2 was a good sign.  Also, Mako Morse's silly antics help a bit too.

BoomShark

At last update, the Shark was going through a Minor (League) slump, dealing with his demotion to AAA, while he knows where he belongs on a Major League roster.  That was history.  Following a day off, the Shark erupted last night for a 3-3 day, with 2 doubles and a HBP.  He's fighting for that September call-up!

SHARK WILL BE BACK!

SOON.

More to come... I promise

All Quiet on the Shark Front

Well things have been pretty quiet around here lately, Loyal Shark Fans.  The Nationals split a four game series in Colorado and now are headed to Chicago to take on the Cubs.  The Nats record sits at 55-59 and the most exciting thing happening in the organization is Stephen Strasburg pitched 3 innings in Single-A Hagerstown.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...The Shark is still playing for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs. They were just swept in a 4 game series in Columbus, Ohio.  The Shark only had one hit in the entire series:

August 4: 1-4, double, 2 RBIs
August 5: 0-3, two walks and a run
August 6: 0-5
August 7: 0-4

He's going to have start playing A LOT better if he wants Davey to call him back up to the big leagues.

I wish I had better news to report, but you'll just have to look at this picure of a sad shark instead:

Shark too good for AAA

The Shark didn't play yesterday, and Shark Week came to a screeching halt.  The lack of Shark in the baseball world sent such a rift through the Nationals organization, that it caused them to lose to the Braves 6-4 last night. Dan Uggla, previous scared to death of the Shark, therefore slumping, continued to swing a hot bat, clubbing another home run and 3 RBIs.  The Nationals needed the Shark out there to rob it.  The Great Werth hit a home run, but it wasn't enough to stop the Braves.

The day before that though...  THE NATIONALS WON! Mako Morse and RicK AnKiel helped a lot (RicK still doing his best Shark impression) by homering.  Meanwhile in Toledo, the Chiefs 'sharkthrottled' the Mud Hens 17-2. The Shark ended 1 for 6 but scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases.  You can listen to the audio highlights here.   In his 2 games back with Syracuse, the Shark has 3 runs, a HR, 2 SB, and an RBI.   He's too good to be held down for long.

Other Sh**k:
Yesterday, if you said Roger "the Shark" Bernadina (or maybe your just had to say Shark) at California Tortilla, you could get a free taco with any purchase.  I definitely took advantage of that.  Did you?

Teddy Roosevelt wants Roger Bernadina back in a Nationals uniform... NOW

The Chiefs are heading to Columbus for a series to close out the rest of Shark Week.  Additionally, the Nationals are heading to Colorado to battle the Rockies.  The Shark will crush any Col it faces.  Bring it.

Bernadina kicks off Shark Week with a bang!

Amazingly, even without the Shark in DC for Shark Week, the Nationals managed to beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3.  The hero of the game? RicK AnKiel, yes, the widowmaKer, himself.  He homered twice in the game and later announced he had done it for Roger Bernadina.

Said AnKiel, "Look, even I wish the Shark was here instead of me.  I may as well do the best damn im'shark'ation I can in the meantime though."

Ankiel's Shark support didn't stop our old friend Ben Goessling from taking a jab at us Shark Fans.  Following Ankiel's second HR, Goessling tweeted:

Ouch, that really hurt, Ben. Wait no, no it didn't. The Nationals won their third straight game and that is a good thing.  The fact that it is Shark Week is another good thing!  Finally, what may have been missed by Benny, was that the Shark homered too!

In his first at-bat back for Syracuse, the Shark homered to deep right field, leading off Shark Week with a bang!  I first heard news from the radio announcers for the Chiefs, when they tweeted:

Also, as they told me they would, they utilized the Shark nickname in calling the shot, by exclaiming "Happy Shark Week!"  You can listen to the audio highlights of the game here!  The Shark Week call is right at the beginning!

The Chiefs are definitely glad to have the Shark back (he finished the game 1-2, with 3 walks!), and we are glad to see the Shark playing full time.  Shark Week isn't over yet.   Bernadina is still going to leave his mark.

More to come.

Saddest Shark Week Ever

As the trade deadline approached, all Loyal Shark Fans waited with baited breath to hear if the Shark would be traded.  It looked like there was a very real possibility that he would be going to the Twins.  The rumor was Storen and Bernadina for CF Denard Span and possibly pitcher Kyle Gibson.  Then the Twins started demanding that the Nats top infield prospect Stephen Lombardozzi be included in the deal.  That was just too much and even Rizzo isn't stupid enough to do that.  He is stupid enough to send The Shark back to Syracuse though, sparking unconfirmed reports that The Shark then asked to be traded.  At least he brought some fish tacos with him to Syracuse, but it doesn't look like it is cheering him up:

This is the saddest Shark Week ever.

By the way, the Nats won 3-2 against the Mets yesterday.  More recaps when we are less depressed...

No Joy in Sharkville

Yesterday, July 29, 2011, the Shark was optioned to Triple-A SyracuseRidiculous!

This leads to many questions...
  • Will the Shark stay in the Nationals organization?
  • If the Shark gets traded, will Terry and Tyler quit their jobs and follow him to whichever city he ends up at?
  • Will the Nationals trade for BJ Upton or Denard Span?
  • Will Terry and Tyler still wear Shark hats to Nationals games?
  • Will the Nationals fans revolt, overthrow Mike Rizzo, and create the nations first, fan-run baseball organization, with the Shark manning the entire outfield and everyone on the team taking on an animal nickname, and finally completing the National's Zoo?
  • Will my cat stop biting me now?  I mean come on!
As Shark fans, we have one thing to hold on to... And that's hope.  We hope things work out for the Shark no matter what happens and we hope we can stay in contact with him, CAUSE THE GUY IS AWESOME!  We also hope that the Discovery Channel doesn't cancel Shark Week this year, but with Bernadina's demotion, who knows

I wrote recently about his stellar August numbers.  I'm sure that he will eat up AAA pitching and force the Nats to recall him (if he doesn't get traded first).  Here's hoping that happens sooner rather than later.

Guess I missed my chance to get burritos for a year...

The Shark is the only Stanton Stopper

Apparently, there is nothing Mike Stanton likes to do more than play against the Washington Nationals.  Especially at Nats Park... Last night he hit his 8th HR in his 12th career game at Nationals Park, as the Florida Marlins beat the Nats 5-2, to complete a series sweep...  It was upsetting and ridiculous.  One because of the loss, and two, because The Shark didn't start in center field.

Because I can, I'm going to just go ahead and say that if Bernadina started, the Nationals would have one.  Mike Stanton has been a huge problem for the Nats this year, and who is the one player who seems to be able to slow him down?  Roger Bernadina!  Remember "the catch?"  At the risk of sounding like I am exaggerating (but not truly exaggerating in the slightest), Bernadina is the one person who can stop StantonThe Shark is the Stanton Stopper.  Sure Stanton is a beast, but The Shark is the greatest and most powerful predator on earth.  He can catch anything. He can stop anything. Even you Mike Stanton.

Soured by the bad taste of defeat, the Nationals, led by the Shark will attempt to turn their fortunes around against the Beltran-less Mets.  Here is what you can expect in this series...
  1. Jose Reyes crying like a little girl when a call doesn't go his way
  2. A two years older version of Chien Ming Wang.
  3. Some of this.
  4. More Shark playing time (2 RHPs)
  5. People in the stadium wearing California Tortilla Shark Fin Hats.
  6. A wind-whipped old man offering you a hug in exchange for a fun sized Snickers bar
  7. COUNTDOWN TO SHARK WEEK (2 MORE DAYS)
  8. SHARK VS. METS: PART 2

FREE SHARK FIN HAT DAY

The Shark had little opportunity to prove himself tonight as the Nationals fell 7-5 to the Florida Marlins.  Perhaps due to his recent slow spell at the plate, the Shark did not start against RHP Javier Vazquez.  Had he, the outcome might have been different.  As was the case, the Shark was left helpless in the dugout as the the Nats fell yet again to these red hot (fried and delicious) Marlins.

Do not fear, however, Shark FansShark Week starts on Sunday and Bernadina is going to drive the fact that he is the Shark into every Major League pitcher's mind.  In other words, he will systematically track them down, and feast on every pitch they throw.  If you need further proof, allow me to point out Bernadina's split stats, which show his August numbers last year (17 R!!!!, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 6 SBAugust is one of the Shark's favorite month's with with Shark week to kick him off, his season is going to end strongly.  TRUST ME.

FREE SHARK HAT
Today is the day, folks!  Go to California Tortilla, buy a fish taco, and get a free Shark Fin Hat.  Then wear it to a Nationals game to really impress your friends.  A bunch of people who work at Imagination Stage are going to the Bethesda CalTort at 11am or 12:45pm.   WE WANT A FISH FIN HAT! The Shark plays at 12:35 so starting then, everyone needs (should need) to wear your newly acquired fin.  The power of the fin will bounce from Fin to Fin, ultimately striking Bernadina's fin and boosting his already massive talent to exponentially high levels.

SHARK MODE TEE IN ACTION
Holy sh**k, this shirt looks pretty freaking Jawsome on the Shark....  I need one of these t-shirts, but I also need to eat food during the next 2 weeks...  Saving my pennies...

Bernadina is the Shark Man, get your Fin today and support him.

SHARK VS MARLINS

Sharks love eating fishBernadina is no different.  Even though the Nationals were obliterated last night, losing 11-2 to the Florida Marlins, the Shark is hungry and fish tacos are on the menu....

The Shark ended the game 0-3 with a walk (one of the total of 7 baserunners) Mako Morse hit a double, and the Loch Nix Monster hit his 13th HR this season.  On the flip side, the Anti-Shark, Logan Morrison (remember him?) clubbed a two run jack, hoping it would intimidate the Shark... It did not.  Hanley Ramirez stole a base, which was a bad idea, because stealing a base in front of the Shark will come around to bite you.

My advice, keep running Hanley Ramirez, before this becomes a reality....

Please click on the picture to fully appreciate the fish taco...

CHOMP- YOU MARLINS ARE DOOMED!

Also, thank you @notjohnstamos for creating Barbra Streisanding SharkadinaSTAMOS!

SHARKADINA BACK IN ACTION

Hello Shark Fans,

I've been working 80 hours a week for the past 3 weeks, so you may have noticed fewer than usual posts, pictures, tweets, everything.  You are noticing that, because that is what happened.  There were fewer.  Well, I'm here to say that we are now back on track!  Now i can work 40 hours a week at Imagination Stage, and 40 hours a week on Sharkadina too (nope)!

We've been s bad, that we haven't posted any information about the shark since Shark Vs Dodgers appeared on Friday night!  Some of you follow the Nationals, and our recaps are less than useful anyway, so you know how the Shark is doing.  For you, I ask you to skip down, because this weekend Nationals recap is not going to be pretty.  For those of you who don't follow the Nationals, please enjoy:

Friday night went pretty well for the Nationals as they beat the Dodgers 7-2.  Though Bernadina ended the night 0-3, his presence inspired John Lannan to hit his first career HR and allow only 1 earned run in 6.1 innings.  After the game, Lannan stated, "It was time to repay the Shark for all those game saving plays and clutch hits."

Saturday was not as pretty.  For one thing, the Shark didn't start so we don't care what happened. Just kidding, but if you must know, the Nationals lost 7-6 despite Mako and Werth combining to go 3 for 7 with 2 runs, a SB, and 3 RBIs.

On Sunday, the Nationals offense was held down, and they fell 3-1.  The Shark went 0-3 but his walk led to the only run scored by the Nats when he came around on Mako Morse's RBI single. 2 singles in the first inning were all the hits the Nats could manage as Chad Billingsley was on fire.  Then after the game, he spontaneously combusted.

Shark's weekend stats were 0-7, 1 R which may worry some, but not us.  Things will turn around again for the Shark on the upcoming homestand.

Tyler vs. Terry
Are you may or may not have known, Tyler and I are playing fantasy baseball this year (we played last year too, and Tyler won 6-4 in the championship game). This year, Tyler's team Shark CHOMPians has been dominating the 12-team head-to-head league (although it appears only 5 people are truly paying attention).  At one point, this season, Shark CHOMPians held a 15 game lead over the second place team.  My team on the other hand, The Shark Tank, squandered several chances early on, and mostly lived in the bottom 1/3 of the league (which is really sad since that meant the people who don't look at their fantasy teams, were doing better for me).  But then I picked up Roger Bernadina.  I changed my name from 3rd Degree Bernadina to The Shark Tank and things have been looking up since.  I have shot up in the rankings and Tyler's once insurmountable lead, has dwindled to 6.5 games.

We matched up earlier this season, with Tyler edging me 5-4.  We matched up again last week, and this time, The Shark Tank took over (led by the Great Werth and Mako Morse).  I beat Tyler 6-4, which gives me the season series 10-9 win.  We match up pretty well, but The Shark Tank rules supreme.

SHARK WEEK APPROACHETH
There is less than a week until Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, which means several things...
  1. Order a fish taco at California Tortilla this Thursday, June 28th and get a Free Shark Fin Hat.
  2. Wear that Shark Fin Hat to CalTort on Wednesday, August 3rd and receive another taco FOR FREE!
  3. Look some of our Roger Bernadina with fish taco photo-editing is on CalTort's website!
  4. Trying to get a big group together to go to the Nationals game a week from today, August 1st.  It's gonna be another Shark Night to remember, so sport your CalTort Fins and be at that game!
The Nationals have a day off today until they return home to face the Florida Marlins tomorrow.  The Shark will be feasting on Fish indeed... Now to wrap Ricky Nolasco up in a CalTort taco shell and snap a picture so I can win burritos for a year!

More to come.

SHARK VS. DODGERS PART 1

If you can dodge a wrench...you can't dodge a Shark.  This is Tyler's first attempt at a "Shark Vs." photoshop and the first time Vince Vaughn has made an appearance on the blog.  I'm sure Terry will do a better job once the Dodgers visit Nats Park in early September.  The Nats start a three game series tonight (10:00 EST first pitch) with John Lannan on the mound and The Shark batting leadoff.  Not only is he a great center fielder and leadoff hitter, I bet he is a pretty good dodgeball player too.

More to come.

Shark Power

Mako Morse and the Shark make a good combination....

So what that the Nationals lost to the Astros last night, 3-2 in 11 innings, Shark Power will carry the Nationals through.

Be prepared.

Shark Bats Seventh and Trade Rumors

The Nationals fell below .500 again last night with their 7-6 loss to the Houston Astros.  Mako Morse tried to single-handedly win the game for the Nationals by going 2-3 with a HR, a double, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, a walk, and a probably intentional HBP in the 9th.  JERRRRRRRRY, in his first game back from injury also added a HR.  The Shark went 1-4 on the night batting from the seven spot.  He temporarily gave over the leadoff spot to The Kangaroo and Daddy Desmond finally moved up in the lineup to the two spot.  Davey Johnson explained the reason for the shake-up:
"I'm not going to put [Kangaroo] in a position where he has to bunt him over for 3 and 4, and [I'm] actually giving my shortstop a chance to move down the lineup. He's been kind of hinting, 'Skip, move me down, I'm feeling I'm ready.' Well, I think you're not ready, but I'm going to give you a shot anyway."
Good managing, Davey.  Apparently, this line-up configuration will get another chance to get a win this afternoon as Livan Hernadez takes the mound against RHP(and soon to be shark attack victim) Brett Myers.

Trade Talk
There are a lot of rumors flying around about the Nationals trading for a center fielder/lead off hitter.  With names like Micheal Bourn and B.J. Upton at the top of the list.  Most of you reading this must be saying to yourself "But the Nationals already HAVE a center fielder and lead off hitter!  His name is Roger "The Shark" Bernadina!" Well, we feel the same way as you, confused reader.

The best solution to this CF trade rumors is for the Shark to put an end to it.  One option is chomping the legs off of every CF in the league.  The other is to put a string of good games together (ideally, the next 60 or so) and prove to the Nationals that he is there man (fish).  I have a very good feeling that the latter is going to happen.  Today's game just started, and Bernadina led off with a walk.  Nice work Shark.  This is the beginning of something good.

More to come.
